When guilt, stress, and crazy pressure can make you forget what the season truly is about

When guilt, stress, and crazy pressure can make you forget what the season truly is aboutHello amazing YOU 🙂

When guilt, stress, and crazy pressure can make you forget what the season truly is about, I am sending these tidings of joy to you 🙂

Especially now, it can feel challenging to remember yourself.

I want you to know that your needs matter. Your, wishes, desires and your fun factor matters. Your life is precious.

This is a time of year when our own needs often come last.

Making space for yourself in the midst of what is going on in your life today and in the days leading up to the holidays is important.

You might be feeling stress and pressure about lots of different things, but it’s important to not get caught up in the stories and needless worries.

Keep ‘reality-checking’ those thoughts you’re having. Are they really true? Don’t just blindly obey every thought.

If you stress over gifts and expenses and things like not having your Christmas cards done, stop right now and get clear about that. You do NOT have to blindly obey custom. Reciprocity isn’t the law, this is NOT a tit for tat holiday.

I’d much rather see you working on these whacky thoughts you’re having than blindly obeying custom.

There is a difference between keeping the peace and obeying your guilt

If there are conflicts in your family right now, and you’re going to be spending time with family you feel less than thrilled to be with, remember that there is a difference between keeping the peace and obeying your guilt. What kinds of limits could you set on your time that would allow you to do the minimum and still keep the peace?

Especially now, when guilt, stress, and crazy pressure can make you forget what the season truly is about, I offer you this reminder:

You do not have to be good.

You do not have to walk on your knees

For a hundred miles through the desert, repenting.

You only have to let the soft animal of your body

love what it loves.

Tell me about your despair, yours, and I will tell you mine.

When guilt, stress, and crazy pressure can make you forget what the season truly is about

Meanwhile the world goes on.

Meanwhile the sun and the clear pebbles of the rain

are moving across the landscapes,

over the prairies and the deep trees,

the mountains and the rivers.

Meanwhile the wild geese, high in the clean blue air,

are heading home again.

Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting —

over and over announcing your place

in the family of things. –Wild Geese by Mary Oliver

Mary Oliver's poem Wild GeeseThis season is about LOVE.

Love. It begins with love for yourself, my friend.

Love is the answer.

Let’s make this season about being kind and gentle with ourselves. What if you set an intention right now to give and receive plenty of permission to do as much or as little as feels right this year? To not HAVE to do a single thing in the name of keeping up appearances or returning sentiments. Ah, now that would be a gift!

Are you with me?

I am sending you so much love right now, and seeing you always with believing eyes.

Rock this day like you really mean it!
