The Seventh Chakra – Everything You Wanted to Know

The Seventh Chakra - Everything You Wanted to Know by Robin HallettThe Seventh Chakra – Everything You Wanted to Know

It’s also known as the Crown Chakra or Sahasrara in Sanskrit

Have you ever felt feelings of great harmony and peace? A sense of connectedness that was so much bigger than just you and your life?

Chakra 7 is a mystical energy center. It’s about your connection to higher consciousness. This chakra is about spirituality, self-realization, and enlightenment.

Chakra seven is the energetic corridor that leads you from a ho-hum vision of life to a sparkling one of infinite possibility. Where you absolutely know we are all connected to our Source.

Chant to open this chakra: Om mani padme hum. In Sanskrit it means jewel in the lotus. You can think of it as: I bow to the one who is the inner self. Reciting this mantra aloud or silently invokes a powerful energy that gently brings a loving, connected relationship with the universe.

About the symbol for this chakra: A thousand-petaled lotus is depicted as the gateway between your individual consciousness and the universal consciousness. The number one thousand represents perfection.

What kind of thought and feeling “stuff” is the seventh chakra affected by?

Beliefs about a God: This chakra is literally a doorway to that higher consciousness many people call God. The doorway is open or closed depending on whether we feel a connection or not.

Beliefs about religion or spirituality: Many of us have had negative experiences with formal religion. For some, the only way to shut those experiences out is to close the seventh chakra.

Hanging on to the old stories: The old stories that speak to your guilty feelings or bad judgement or you not measuring up in life closes the seventh chakra. These stories take up valuable real estate inside you, robbing you of precious life force energy you would be otherwise using to live your NOW moments!

Not letting go of old hurts by others: I’m saying this lovingly… it is 2012, how much longer do you need to be upset with that person? Your anger, resentment, and unforgiving heart only poisons you and teaches you to be untrusting of the goodness in life.

Missing the amazingness life has to offer: In every moment life offers itself to you. Make it a practice to notice the good parts, not just the bad ones. Suffering is a by-product of our minds. We think we are suffering, and so we are. Practice being inspired by letting the goodness in life touch you.

Remember this: The past is history. The future is a mystery. The present is a gift.

Get your energy fully into the present moment. Be here NOW.

What can you do to support this chakra?

Essential oils: The oils good for the seventh chakra are myrrh, frankincense, sandalwood, patchouli, lavender, rosewood and rose. Additionally, Copal and Frankincense resin are excellent to burn.

You can put a few drops into your hands and inhale the essences. Try rubbing a few drops onto the soles of your feet before meditating.

Healing exercises to support the seventh chakra

Practice having an attitude of gratitude. Learn to say thank you for the big and little things in life.

Prayer. Make a connection on a daily basis to a power greater than yourself. It doesn’t have to be God. It can be nature, or the stars, or anything that gives you the knowing that you are not here all by yourself. Just say hello and thank you every day.

Know that goodness and grace are being held for you in escrow right now. It’s there for you. Take a moment to receive it.

Meditation. There are many ways you can meditate. You can sit quietly and empty your mind. You can create artwork. You can walk, dance, run, sing, say a mantra. It’s up to you.

As you meditate, allow a connection through the crown chakra to the greater energy source. Think God, or creative spark, or Divine energy, whatever you want to call it. You want to be an open system, pulling that source energy into your seventh chakra and down through all your chakras.
