There Is Another Way

the wheel of suffering

Hello, sweet friend. Love and hugs I send to you on this day. It’s a gift to have friends to share the heart space with, don’t you think? Thank you for being here. I’ve been thinking about the way we carry people who’ve upset us. We can feel disappointed, or let down, unseen, not supported. It can be a regular thing to think about the situation on a repeating loop and the effects of this on the body and general mood are quite difficult to bear. There is another way to see this though. It requires a strength I know… …Read More »

Broken, but Better

As a kid, I often felt helpless and unsafe around the people who were supposed to love me the most. I was at the mercy of their fluctuating moods and addictions. The experience of not being cherished or wanted was ongoing and relentless. My personal work today is sitting with how that wounding gets tweaked now as I meet people who resemble the cast of characters from childhood–the ones who seem unsafe, wildly fluctuating in their moods, addicted, and unable to cherish or respect me. On each of our paths, situations will arise where the patterns are repeated. Do not… …Read More »

Make Sure You Are

Hi, beautiful friend, This is a NEW day. It can be whatever we want it to be. Sometimes it’s good to remember that… sometimes I need reminding by the hour 😉 How is the weather in your heart today? I hope you are being gentle and kind with your heart. Here’s what I am thinking about as I sit down to write to you. It’s so easy to assume we need to be like everybody else, following the leader, listening to the experts, making the appropriate moves. Except we are not everybody else, are we? You are YOU and I… …Read More »

Getting Through Challenging Times

Good morning from my indoor nursery. The thing I’d love to share today is this… so many of us experience anxiety and upset as the holidays approach. They have stories of events past where hard things happened or horrible feelings occurred… people were rude to one another–family, friends, spouses–and somehow it was never addressed never healed and we’re still carrying it. So here we come into another season with all the discomfort and all the feelings. The scared. The worry. The concern. And then all the self-judgment because, wtf why can’t I just be normal and have a normal family?!… …Read More »

The Bewilderment of What to Do in Times Like These and the Practice of Tonglen

There is no shame in needing help

Times like these can trigger so many things for us personally. Is that you too? What’s happening in the world is also happening in you and me. It seems like in spiritual circles a successful practice means you don’t feel things. But the more I practice the more I realize that it’s my tender-hearted broken-openness I love the most. My need to care and be cared for is valuable and meaningful. That I feel our shared humanity is something I love. It’s okay to be someone who feels deeply. There is nothing wrong with you if you are often thinking… …Read More »

When you’re worried, or upset, or unable to focus, or triggered…

Hello, sweet friend, I am listening to James Taylor tell me he is the Handy Man and sipping a cuppa yum yum. I can hear birdies and a lawnmower and the bubbling of my little fountain outside. This moment right here and now is perfect. Here is the main thing that I wanna say… to myself today. And also to you because, friends on the journey. STAY IN YOUR CENTER. I guess that needs to be shouty sometimes, you know? We make ourselves crazy with worry and anxiety when we don’t. JUST BECAUSE IT’S UNCOMFORTABLE, IT DOESN’T MEAN YOU GET… …Read More »

The Crack Where the Light Gets In

The Crack Where The Light Gets In by Robin Hallett

Hi. This was originally written Nov 2016. We were in interesting times and always, there is a personal relation to those times. Wanted to share here again, it feels so relevant. Hugs, Robin I’ve been spending a lot of time in quiet. Trying to get my bearings, waiting for the ride to slow. I’m reminding myself to breathe, to soften. Giving myself the little extras. I keep asking: Why am I so upset? Part of me is surprised to be feeling this way. As if it’s a problem, an inconvenience. As if some part of me is difficult because I… …Read More »

Resistance is futile. We’re here for tangible joy.

Happiness by robin hallett

I want to tell you a little story. It’s one I’ve wanted to tell you for a while except for the worry that I’d sound like I drank the Kool-Aid. And as much as I try not to pre-pad my posts with preparatory remarks, I think we need one. Things are about to sound really weird. But maybe only for me. Maybe not for you?! The first time it happened to me, it was the middle of the night. I was deeply asleep one moment, and the next, I wasn’t. Something shook me awake. I bolted upright, heart pounding hard.… …Read More »

People Who Treat You Badly and What to Do About It

Wow, are there ever times when life brings us some crap! I don’t really know anyone who greets the upset that comes our way with glee, most of us run the other way.
